So, this is what I'm told about the Outhouses...... The star was considered the man outhouse, the half-moon was considered the woman's outhouse. Over time the man never took care of maintaining theirs and the women did. Thus, that is why you only see outhouses with the half-moon because that was all that was left standing over time. Sounds good so I'm sticking with that theory.
