History
The Moscow Mule was created around 1940 in Los Angeles by John G. Martin (an executive at Smirnoff) and Jack Morgan (owner of the Cock 'n' Bull tavern), who needed to boost sales of their respective, unpopular products. The iconic copper mugs were introduced to help the drink stand out, likely originating from a separate business effort by immigrant Sophie Berezinski
